Hi, I’m Sam!
I’m a wife, mother, and a manager in Corporate America—but most importantly, I’m someone learning to slow down, one step and one season at a time. Start Slow, Grow Wild was born from a deep desire to live more intentionally and share the real-life journey of homesteading—from the magical moments to the messy ones. Whether you’re dreaming of backyard chickens, starting your first garden, or just craving a slower rhythm, you’re in the right place.
My hope for this blog is simple: to share honest, helpful content that inspires and connects a community of new (or seasoned) homesteaders and slow-living seekers.
So, here’s what you can expect from me:
A little fun along the way: Because this lifestyle is deeply meaningful and full of joy.
Real talk: I’ll share the good, the bad, and the definitely-not-Instagram-perfect.
Trustworthy content: Every tip, trick, or product I recommend, I’ve used myself.
A welcoming space: No matter where you are in your journey, you belong here.

Curious how I got here? Honestly—same. I grew up in typical suburban America and never imagined a homesteading lifestyle was in my future. But in 2017, my husband Nick and I sold our tiny two-bedroom townhome and moved into what I lovingly call our first Little House on the Prairie. The house was modest, but the land—two acres nestled in the quiet—was everything. That was our first toe-dip into homesteading. One house and two farms later, we’re building a lifestyle rooted in self-sufficiency, fresh air, and the kind of wisdom my great-grandmother would be proud of. We spend more time outdoors, work on our land, and raise our kids to know practical, old-fashioned skills—all while embracing a slower, more intentional life. Read our full story here →
